Willem Dafoe presenta ‘The Birthday Party’ en el BCN Film Fest y reflexiona sobre su legado
Barcelona, 29 de mayo de 2026.- Willem Dafoe presentó su nueva película ‘The Birthday Party’ en el marco del BCN Film Fest, certamen que abrió sus puertas el jueves 16 de abril de 2026. En la cinta, dirigida por Miguel Ángel Jiménez, el actor interpreta a un magnate naviero griego cuya trama transcurre en el verano de 1975, cuando el personaje organiza el 25 cumpleaños de su hija en una isla privada tras la muerte de su hijo mayor en un accidente.
Dafoe, quien tiene 70 años y vive cerca de Roma en una granja de alpacas, contó una anécdota sobre cómo lo percibe el público: “Some guys got on the train — and they’re sitting and they’re looking at me and they’re looking kind of rough. They were looking kind of mean and they were looking at each other, and then I heard one say, ‘Yeah, it’s got to be him. Nobody looks like that mother fucker.'”
Con cuatro nominaciones al Oscar en su haber, incluyendo la tercera por ‘The Florida Project’, el actor recordó los elogios del director Sean Baker sobre su adaptación a proyectos pequeños con actores no profesionales. Sobre su propio hijo en la vida real, Dafoe bromeó al ser cuestionado: “[Laughs] I hope so too, I only have one”.
Al abordar el tema de su legado artístico, el intérprete fue contundente: “Not at all. Thinking about that causes problems. Because I go from one job to another, I immerse myself in them. If you think about legacy, you have to step back and observe yourself from the outside for too long. I’m not like that”. Explicó que los actores deben navegar entre la corrupción del entorno y la autoconciencia, manteniendo la voluntad de que su propia opinión no dependa de comentarios externos.
“You keep doing what you do. You pay a price, of course, because you stay in the moment, you don’t look back or forward, which is how you observe a legacy”, añadió Dafoe. Su presencia global sigue vigente; el 27 de marzo de 2026, Día Internacional del Teatro, se leyó un mensaje escrito por él al final de cada función en todo el mundo. Cuando se le preguntó por detalles específicos de su pasado, respondió: “I don’t remember, I really don’t remember… but it could be, I like those details”.
